Westport Marine is proud
to announce their new 17’ Pilot6 cuddy angling boat. After the
success of the Pilot4, Westport Marine has created a larger version
for more serious sea use. The layout is principally the same as the
practical Pilot4, but with a longer length the lines are easier
whilst still retaining the distinctive character. With a wide beam,
good freeboard and large deck area, synonymous with our Pilot boats,
there is plenty of room for fishing and storing gear. She comes as
standard with port and starboard 'helm' seating great to fish from
while still being sheltered by the cuddy. Grab rails around the
cuddy provide plenty of security and prove ideal for mounting the
various lights, aerials and navigational equipment that most sea
anglers seem to fit nowadays, in fact navigation lights even come as
standard.
The Pilot6 is rated for outboards up to 90 hp giving speeds up to
32+knots, however a 50hp will provide a more comfortable cruising
speed of 20 knots, (25 knots max). The hull is reinforced with an
internal girder system connecting the hull and deck creating a very
strong and rigid structure. This arrangement also forms four
separate buoyancy chambers, all filled with foam giving over 1,300
kg of buoyancy.
Another seaworthy feature is the main deck that sits above the
waterline allowing aft deck drains to be fitted in each quarter,
ensuring that the main deck rapidly self drains even in the worst
conditions. A really practical feature is that the deck drains are
lead straight aft through the transom allowing any blockage to be
quickly cleared, with a non-return flap to help prevent water
sloshing back up to the deck.
The cuddy has generous headroom with seating arranged in a ‘U’
formation. Two large side lockers provide dry storage with an open
central ‘locker’ which can either be used for a porta-potty,
general/fish box storage, or with the seat top hinged-up you can
stand while leaning through the forward hatch (saving your knees!)
for mooring or anchoring duties. The anchor being stored in a self
draining locker accessed from the foredeck.
Seating and locker space is also provided aft. Two ‘wing’ lockers
provide general storage with a deep central locker large enough for
two fuel tanks and more, so no excuses for cluttering up the deck
with loose gear.

The Pilot4 offers maximum versatility as an all-round boat with an
impressive performance. Ideal if you enjoy a lot of different
activities, fishing, water-skiing, diving, bathing or just pottering
around.
At slow displacement speeds the Pilot4 tracks well and is very
manoeuvrable, so whether you are trolling for fish or exploring
rivers you can be assured a relaxing time. But apply the throttle
and the Pilot4 eases onto the plane giving you the performance you
would expect from a conventional sports boat.
When onboard you have the space and feeling of a much larger boat
with plenty of storage and seating. The high internal freeboard is
perfect for smaller children, with the cuddy providing a safe haven
